Inspired Spotlight - Brandi Nell the Southern Bell

Hey all!  It's my Inspired Spotlight time!  As soon as you get done reading this guest post you will see why Brandi inspires me so much!  What an AMAZING project, Brandi!

Hi there! I’m Brandi from over at Brandi Nell the Southern Belle. I am so excited that Beth decided feature me here for her Inspired Spotlight!

First let me explain – My husband and I bought a townhouse two and a half years ago and we have been renovating it ever since! Our blog is kind of a diary of our journey in our own home makeover. Room by room we make our house or home.

The past two months, we have been working on my office (or what will be my office). Our latest project has been building some storage cabinets using old doors and barn wood. These old doors were found on our family farm in South Georgia. This is what the doors looked like BEFORE we started the project.

We cleaned the doors up, painted them, and antiqued them … yes, I am crazy – I antiqued, antique doors… you will see those further down.

Then Hubs built a frame for the cabinets out of 2x4’s.

 

Once the frame was built, we added four door hinges to the frame to hang the door. It’s starting to look like a cabinet now!
 
Then we added the beadboard to the inside.

Then we added shelves and I painted it, and painted it, and painted it… painted something red is the DEVIL.

We decided to go with “chicken wire” for the windows of the doors.

We decided to take barnwood from our family farm and clad the outside of the cabinet. Yes, that is ME with the nail gun. I pretend to know how to work power tools.

Watch out… WOMAN ON A MISSION.... WITH A NAIL GUN!

Once the cabinet was completed (which took about a week to complete each one), we bolted the cabinet into the wall. And here she is! HOORAY!

We decided to do TWO of these fabulous cabinets and also add barnwood shelving between the two cabinets for additional storage. This gave this unit a real custom, built in look. I understand that this very rustic look isn’t for everyone, but we are really happy with the way they turned out. I am so ready for our home office to be finished.

Some AWESOMENESS With My Return

It has been about THREE weeks since I have been here.  Did ya miss me?!?!  {I didn't think so}  I'll just pretend that you did!

I have been SOOOOOO stinkin' busy getting this wedding stuff together that I honestly can't beleive that it is in 8 days!  We have gotten a lot done but we still have sooooo much more to do.  On the agenda tonight is actually getting a dress for Alysia and a suit for James. 
Along with my absence, I haven't been posting my Inspired Spotlights on Thursdays!  Technically, even though it's late, it is still Thursday so I thought I would kick off my return by sharing my love for Amanda over at Every Crafty Endeaver.  She has a wonderful craft to share with you all but there are many, many more over at her blog.  I'll let her take it from here.

Hello Inspired Spotlight Readers!

My name is Amanda and I am the crafty gal behind Every Crafty Endeavor.

I love crafting and being creative. I named my blog Every Crafty Endeavor because I never know what crafty thing I would like to try or share. I am married to an awesome guy named Spencer and together we have one adorable little guy named Quinn and I am pregnant with our second - a girl - due in November. I love being a wife and mom, decorating my home, cooking, baking, thrift stores, coke and chocolate.

Beth invited me over today and asked if I would share a tutorial with you - so here I am.

The craft I picked is simple, cute and cheap - just the way I love it!

FABRIC WALL DECOR!

I have been wanting to do a fabric wall hanging for about three years now and this weekend, I finally got it done!

I love the way it turned out and it was so simple, easy and cheap! Perfect!

The first thing I did was buy 1" x 2" pieces of wood at Home Depot.

Then using a table saw, I asked my husband to route out some grooves.

(Since I have a big ole' baby belly I asked my husband for help with the frame)

Then we trimmed down my pieces to the sizes I wanted.

I did a 30" x 48" frame.

Spencer cut them at 45 degree angles.

Then he assembled the pieces for me. He screwed one screw into each corner.

He would get the screws started...

... add wood glue...

... then finish them off.

Since we used wood glue we had to wait about 30 minutes for the glue to set.

Next, I layed out my fabric - Upside down -

and positioned the frame where I wanted it.

Then I simply pulled the fabric over the frame...

... and using my staple gun, stapled the fabric in the grooves.

I completed one side and then I moved to the opposite side. On the opposite side I pulled the fabric tight so I wouldn't have any sagging.

For the corners I folded the fabric into a triangle,

then pulled it really tight and stapled it in place.

It made for nice clean corners.

(sort of how you wrap a gift)

I repeated this on each corner then finished stapling my sides.

Pulling tight as I went.

And that was it!

For some reason in this picture it looks like there is a crease in the fabric - but I assure you  - there isn't. Strange.

I love it!

Next, I hung it up on this bare wall.

Sorry about the craptastic pictures. This room is dark with no real light from the sunshine so I had to use my flash. yuck.

 But here she is hung up! I love it - and it really does add a bunch of color with that blue to that room. I have been trying to add blue into my decorating and I think this works out really great.

I bought the fabric at Hobby Lobby.

They have a great selection of home decor fabrics that are so cute!

The Fabric cost me about $23 with tax.

The frame cost less than $2 -

So I am into it for about $25!

Not bad. Not bad at all!!

Inspired Spotlight

I just bought an entire bed set for my two boys so I was really anxious to get it on the bed!!! I’m not particular when it comes to making beds but when we have a party and everyone wants to see the house  I always like to have them all dolled up! My mothers beds are always super comfy and nesty so today I will share how I make a bed for those special occasions….
I like the look of mixing and matching. I have about 6 different types of of sets for their beds…Ralph Lauren, Circo, Tommy, etc…so don’t be afraid to NOT get a bed in a bag…lol

The first thing you want to start off with is a good mattress. I maybe a young one still…lol but I do know that a good mattress will get you some good sleep. So find one at a smoking deal!!!!
   
Next use a mattress pad. If you have little ones like me then you might want to get a waterproof one:0)
Then put on a fitted sheet sheet…if its winter I like to put on a featherbed, but my hubby always complains that it’s too hot! So it doesn't stay on to long but does add an extra layer of comfort. If your mattress is deep like mine you might want to measure it before to make sure you get one that fits!! I love using jersey sheets or sateen….and guess what you don’t have to get the HIGHEST thread count!!!!
 
Then you add the flat sheet wrong side up. This way when you flip it you can see the right side of the sheet.
Next you put on the comforter. I you choose a reversible comforter you have TWO options which is nice if you like to change things around like i do:0) This one has red blue and khaki…but also has a full khaki side. Also a duvet will do too! Then pull back the comforter and the fitted sheet to get this look..

Or add a Quilt before to get this look!(excuse the picture quaitly..I had to bust out my shoot and point the last minute!!!)

When I added my pillows I used a standard sham and standard pillow  but you can also use king or queen shams like I used here even if it is a TWIN bed:0)
Of course we had to add Kels BoBo…he’s still apart of the family:0)

So there you have it a simple way to make a bed all fancy when you have guest….that’s if you didn’t already know HOW TO :0)
