Ladies Night!

Tonight was Ladies Night at a local winery.  H Avenue {a local clothing store in Tonganoxie} was having a fashion show there along with a booth.  About a week ago, the owner asked me to model some of them fashions tonight and I graciously obliged.  I was actually very excited to do it :)

It was a BLAST!!  The other ladies there were close to my age so I didn’t feel like  the “old” one.  When you’re in your mid 30’s, you tend to feel like the “old” one really quick.  My hubby has been calling me a “super model” all week!  He’s so sweet!!

Green Thumb or Not?

We shall see!

We decided to put a garden in this year.  We planted it about a month ago and I am just that behind in blogging about it.  The last time we had a garden was in 2003.  I vowed to never have a garden again because they are soooo much work. 

As you can see, the hubby broke me down and I agreed!  Sure he’ll help me…just as he did when planting it.  He LOVES supervising!  It’s what he does best.

Me “really” making sure that I am planting right.  Big Daddy kept telling me the plants weren’t lining up.  I just don’t think it’s that big of a deal but apparantly, Big Daddy does. 

This one – kept disappearing!  I can tell he’s gonna help a lot when I need it!

 

Everytime Alysia’s “friend” comes over we put him to work it seems like.  AND, he keeps coming back…

Neighbor girls giving us a hand.  It got really boring, really quick for them though.  I told one of them she could come back everyday and help me weed, etc.  I haven’t seen her since :)

Mr. Parker was a big help digging holes – IN ALL THE WRONG SPOTS!  My thoughts?  “At least he’s entertained and not trampling our hard work.

Where’s Alysia ?  Behind the camera.  My kids never work….  I do have to admit that she did get dirty that day though.  She dug right along with me.   And she was in a pleasant unteenager like way!  It was so very nice!! 

Next, I’ll post some pics of how things are coming along.  Our pumpkins are going CRAZY already!  I’m excited to see how those turn out!

Icing Fail – Help!

Technically, today isn’t James’ birthday.  It’s on June 22.  But, since it falls in the summer, he gets to celebrate at school today!

I’m thinking his party this year is going to Army themed and so I thought this would be a good time to attempt some camouflage cupcakes.

They’re “okay”.  I think I need to work on the camo technique a little bit more.  I just mixed some green icing together and then used chocolate for the brown.  I folded them together very lightly and then dumped it all in my piping gun.  They were so-so in the beginning {what you see} but towards the end the colors were mixing a little too much and it looked more like “poop”.  I’m really hoping the kids don’t mind that resemblance :)

Any suggestions?

A Kid’s Favorite Toy

BOXES!

You can spend a butt load of money on presents but when it comes down to it all the kids REALLY like are the boxes.

You’d think as parents we would learn this sooner rather than later.

Parker is no exception to that.

He LOVES when I get boxes in the mail.  It’s not long before his entire bed is made around the “box fort”.

 

There seems to be an endless cycle of forts that are built in my front room.  On any given day if you come to visit, you might just have to take cover in one :)

A rarity that has me baffled…

This weekend has been a whirlwind.  Not because we were overly busy but just because we didn’t really get much sleep.

Parker had his adenoids removed on Friday.  All seemed to go well.  He was pretty upset when I went to meet him in the recovery room but I’m assuming that’s to be expected when a 2-year old wakes up in a strange place and can’t find his mommy and daddy.

His attitude was pretty good the whole day and throughout the weekend.  He’s a grouchy kid – that was nothing out of the ordinary.

It’s nighttime when things change up and become weird.

Parker has NEVER in his life been afraid to go to bed.  Out of all my kids he has been one of my best sleepers.  When it’s time for bed there are no tears and he does exactly what he needs to do.

Until now.  He is deathly afraid to go to sleep for some reason!  When we lay him down at night he has to be holding our hand or touching us in some way.  Then when he does finally fall asleep it doesn’t last very long until he is in our bedroom crying.

Now let me tell you…I’m a momma and I know the different cry’s that my children have.  It’s something that us momma’s learn somehow when we are pregnant.  This cry is not something that he is using to just try to get into bed with us.  It is a deathly afraid cry!  Something that I have never heard from him before.

He then sleeps with us the rest of the night and the entire time, one of us has to be touching him.  When we aren’t he is awake and crying again.  He is seriously up ever hour on the hour all night long crying and freaking out.  The only thing that I can come up with is that he was so traumatized when he was put under during surgery that he is scared to death to go to sleep for fear of where he will wake up.  I feel so bad for him!

There is one other thing.  ALL day long, Parker doesn’t complain of anything hurting him.  The adenoid surgery in and of itself has virtually no pain associated with it after the fact.  Therefore, there should be no pain that he is aware of.

Now only at night when he wakes up screaming scared to death, he says “OW”!!  I ask him where it hurts and he opens his mouth and points to the inside of it.  I can’t see anything of why there would be pain.  And he doesn’t complain of any pain during waking hours.  I even went to far as to alternate Motrin and Tylenol all night long to help alleviate any pain that he may have been having.  It didn’t work.

Now, I know I may sound absolutely crazy when I say this, but I have read reports of rare cases in which individuals go under during surgery but yet can still feel everything and is aware of everything that is happening around them.

It just makes me wonder with my son.  Why would he be suddenly scared to death to go to sleep?  AND why would he act like he is in pain when all during the day he isn’t?  Is he scared that something is going to hurt him when he sleeps??

I feel so bad for him as there is virtually nothing I can do for him other than be by his side right now.  Any suggestions?  I want my poor baby to sleep better at night knowing that I am and will always be here for him!

The Best Enchiladas You’ll EVER Eat!

These really are the best enchiladas ever.  My family LOVES them and looks forward to when I make them.  I don’t know that I would call them true “Mexican” enchiladas, but I did learn how to make them from my ex-mother-in-law, who is Hispanic.

Brown 1 pound of ground hamburger {we use turkey because it’s healthier – I honestly can’t taste the difference}

Add one small onion and cook thoroughly.

Add one small can of cream of mushroom soup and one small can of tomato soup.  This will be the innards of the enchiladas.

Total yumminess, I promise!

 

While the meat is cooking, very “quickly” cook corn tortillas in a small fry pan of oil.  You are just wanting to get the tortillas soft and pliable.  If you don’t cook them long enough, they’ll get mushy.  If you cook them too long, they’ll be too crisp.  You might ruin a few getting used to it, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll never forget.  It’s somewhat of an art, but well worth it in the end.

 

Dip your tortilla in enchilada sauce of your choice.  Today I used the traditional red sauce but we have used the “green” and it is totally yummy!  Especially made with chicken :)

 

Top with cheese – LOTS OF CHEESE!

 

Layer in a baking dish.  I usually make two layers.

Pour any remaining enchilada sauce over the top and top with all the cheese you can find in the house!  You can never have too much cheese on them, in my opinion.

Pop in the oven at 375 degrees and bake for about 30 minutes or until the cheese is a melted gooey goodness!!

Mmmmmm….mmmmmmm……good!!

My First Vinyl Project

Remember how I told you I finally got a Silhouette?!  I have had it for about a week and a half now and last night I FINALLY did my first vinyl project.

It’s no secret that I like wine.  I usually have a few glasses a week.  I thought it would be cute to jazz up my wine glasses with some cut vinyl.

I’m still debating on whether the font is too big or not.  What do you think?  Overall, I think it turned out good!

I am participating in an event at a local winery in June and I think this is the perfect item to take with me.  I’m going to work with some other sayings so that I have a wide variety for my customers.

Teacher Appreciation

This week is Teacher Appreciation week at school.  Each day has a special theme.  Monday was “Wear Teacher’s Favorite Color Day”.  Tuesday was “Sweet Day”.  Today was “Flower Day”.

Tomorrow is “Office Supply Day”.  You are encouraged to bring something that will enhance the teacher’s desk. 

This is what I came up with.  Actually, I copied the idea from Eighteen 25.  {By the way, hers is so stinkin’ cute!}

Other than the fillers, I already had everything else.  AND, the fillers were on clearance at Wal-Mart.

Total cost of this gift: $6.00

I think ALL teachers are worth a little something special!

Wrong Diagnosis

Could it be?  My son was diagnosed with poison ivy about a week and a half ago.  He was put on an oral steroid for 7 days.  He completed it and the rash wasn’t want better.  I called the Dr. and she said that it can take up to 21 days for the rash to go away.

Personally, I would think that after being on an oral steroid for 7 days, the rash wouldn’t be as severe.  To this day he itches like crazy!

Also, in my experience, poison ivy seems to follow a trailing nature when it breaks out on your skin.  I have it on my arm right now and every time I get it, it looks the same.  This just doesn’t look like the same thing to me.  Now, I’m not sure what poison oak or poison sumac do to the body when you are allergic so it could be something like that.

The poor thing is just miserable.  He itches himself raw when he is sleeping and then since he is so active, sweat and the rash don’t mix well.

I Spy – Time Gone By

Memories of fun times on my hubby’s phone.  I don’t sync his phone very often therefore I don’t really see what pics he takes in everyday life.

These are some shots that have reminded me how fast time flies by us…

 

James being an AWESOME big brother!

I can not sleep when there is ANY noise around me.  In order to get a nap with Parker during the day, I had to wear ear plugs.  They are VERY fashionable!  And…seriously – the ladybug Branson shirt!  What was I thinking?!?!

Ignoring the fact that I look like a ghost, this adorable pic shows how Parker lost all of his hair when he was little with the exception of a small come over in the front :)

 

I love seeing my boys together.  I pray that they have a very close relationship as they get older.
